I was hesitant to hire a Chinese tutor but when my friend encouraged me to try hers, I thought I'd give it a shot. Boy did I hit the jackpot. I was expecting just someone to practice basic speaking skills with. Cecilia pushed me to learn to write, to improve my reading skills, to understand the background of characters and to improve my tones. She is extremely knowledgeable on Chinese etymology and Chinese history and culture in general. She let me make decisions on what I wanted to learn and was even willing to teach me calligraphy. Not only is Cecilia knowledgeable and helpful she is extremely sweet and one of the most patient people I've ever met. When I signed up for classes with her, I was lucky not only to have found a tutor, but a great friend."

When I first arrived in Taiwan, I was overwhelmed by the thought of learning Chinese. I am so happy that I found Cecilia, as she really made the language accessible. My abilities grew consistently. I took regular classes with her for one year, and my level is higher than some of my friends who have been here for several years. I have even referred her to friends who were also very happy with her methods. I highly recommend her!

After a couple of years of attempting to self-teach myself Chinese I finally relented and started seeing Cecilia as my tutor. I'm extremely glad I did, she understands that every student learns differently and tailors the lessons and her teaching style to suit. She very quickly realized and understood how my brain worked and how best to explain grammar concepts to me which were a god sent when you were feeling like learning Chinese was just too difficult. Language learning comes in surges and plateaus and Cecilia was fast paced in the surges and encouraging and patient during the plateaus.
But what stood out to me about Cecilia (and what makes her different to any other tutor I've had) is her passion. She has a passion for Chinese literature, for Chinese history, for the characters and their histories; and when she was explaining these to me that passion was evident and it was infectious.
Cecilia dealt with and patiently answered my millions of questions about not just language learning, but also about Taiwan and it's culture. I miss our Friday morning classes and our Sunday morning hikes!
